Here are estimates so far of the number of people participating in today's demonstrations against the war in Iraq. I used the higher figures given by organizers, as opposed to the lower police estimates. Most are from mainstream media sources, although I did check several IndyMedia newswires for figures as well. For the biggest demonstration, in Rome, I split the difference between the 2,000,000 figure which has been widely reported, and the 3,000,000 figure that I found on the Italian IndyMedia site: http://italy.indymedia.org/news/2003/02/177868.php Similarly, I split the difference between the many reports which gave 1,500,000 for London, versus a few newer reports citing 2,000,000; and also between reports for Madrid at 1,000,000 versus 2,000,000; and for New York at 500,000 versus 1,000,000.
